Peru - Nazca Lines

No one really knows why the lines were created,

500 square kilometres of desert plane covered in rocks holds over 300 geometric shapes and 80 animal and plant shapes ranging up to 500 meters in length for a single drawing!

They were only discovered by chance by a research flyover in 1939
and now part of the wonders of the world.

They were made by removing the sun burnt dark rocks exposing the lighter coloured sand below. It's not known why the gigantic lines were created, especially when you can only truly appreciate them from the sky.

It's theorised the Paracas and Inkas made them between 900bc and 600ad and they mapped out an astronomical calendar. . Other ideas include ritual walkways, ET landing sites and shaman dreams.

We took a small Cessna plane up and hung on as the pilot bobbed the little plane left and right circling to ensure we got a good view of each figure.

The photos show: humming bird, hands, tree, spaceman and the monkey.

Off on another Magic Bus to Cusco.
